Brian Hirsch – Senior Associate Director

I have been working at UNT for six years, but I have over 25 years of higher education experience. People are sometimes surprised to find out that I worked for five years in pharmaceutical sales right out of college and finding out that my undergraduate major was Zoology.

Describe a typical workday, tasks, and what you enjoy most about your job?

Most of my days, I have at least several appointments with students. I enjoy seeing the lights go on for them as they are planning the next steps after college. I also like working directly with recruiters (I usually have contact with several a day). The number of opportunities and the variety of jobs available to our students is amazing, and I learn something new about those opportunities nearly every day.

Describe the services you provide for UNT students.

Pretty much anything related to career planning. Figuring out a major, what to do with a major, personal branding, resume writing, job searching, and networking.

Why do you believe students utilize the career center? What are the benefits?

A student recently said, “I got all of my questions answered.” I think this is a good summary of the work that the 30+ staff members in our office do to assist students. As well as providing numerous resources from which they can learn.
