DeZhane Jackson (she, her, hers) – Career Ambassador

My name is DeZhané which I’m sure is hard to pronounce, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, and I come from a huge loving family. I am currently a Junior at the University of North Texas and majoring in Fashion Design. I am a Career Ambassador at the Career Center for the 2020-2021 academic year. A fun fact is that I am also an entrepreneur and have my own clothing business.

Describe a typical workday, tasks, and what you enjoy most about your job?

During a workday, I conduct Quick-Chats with students regarding resumes, cover letters, interview prep, etc. I check emails regularly to see if anyone has reached out or if other specific things need completion. There are also weekly meetings held, and if you are working during that time, it is required for you to attend. In these meetings, we check in with one another, set goals, brainstorm, and figure out how to successfully reach our goals. What I enjoy most about my job is the ability to impact and help those who try to better themselves. Whether it’s me helping with resumes or giving them interview tips, it’s something that can benefit them. It makes me happy to see other people excel and grow.

Describe the services you provide for UNT students.

We provide resume writing and revisions, cover letter writing and revisions, interview prep, professional headshots, job/internship search, and tech checks.

Why do you believe students utilize the Career Center? What are the benefits?

I believe students utilize the Career Center because it is a free avenue for students to gain insight on developing and growing their professional portfolios.

Quick chats with a Career Ambassador are available from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.mm every Tuesday and Thursday. Workshops are available for student organizations by using this link.
