Career Readiness – Second Year Seminar

Welcome to the next steps in your Career Readiness journey at UNT! In this online course, you will have the opportunity to learn more about yourself, your major, and tools to support your career development. During this seminar, we will do a deeper dive into marketable skills, connecting majors and careers, internships and experiential learning, and professional communication. You will receive support from a Career Peer Mentor and the Career Education team within the UNT Career Center. Additional resources to support you on your Career Readiness journey include employer and internship networking and online resources such as Student Employment, Mean Green Mentors, and other Career Services. Modules and Assignments:

 

Module 1

Overview and Focus2 Registration:

Assignments:

  1. Complete the Focus2 Registration.
  2. Complete the Pre-test.
Module 2

Futureproof your Career Skills and Upskilling:

Assignments:

  1. Complete the Am I Career Ready Skills and Skills Assessments via Focus 2.
  2. Input top 3 occupations.
Module 3

Connecting Majors to Careers:

Assignments:

  1. Complete the Work Interest, Personality, Values, and Leisure Assessments via Focus 2.
  2. Create and upload combined portfolio to Canvas.
  3. Answer Occupational questions.
Check-in 1

Check-in 1: Occupation and Major Confirmation Check-in

Assignment:

  1. Check in with your peer mentor via email/teams/zoom or in person to discuss and confirm your major.
Module 4

Internships

Assignment:

  1. Internship learning series video and quiz.
Module 5

Module 5: Professional Communications (Part 1)

Assignments:

  1. Building Self Confidence readings and quiz.
  2. Resume, Cover Letter, and LinkedIn upload survey and questions.

Module 5: Professional Communications (Part 2)

Assignments:

  1. Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication videos and quiz.
  2. Overcoming Nerves videos and quiz.
  3. Practice Interviewing via Big Interview and upload questions.

Check-in 2: Second Year Seminar Conclusion

Assignment:

  1. Check in with your peer mentor to wrap up the semester and continue your Career Journey with support from your peers and the Career Center.
