The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center is seeking hardworking and dedicated interns to join our team. During this internship you will be trained on how to provide direct advocacy services to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones while also gaining insight and experience in the non-profit sector. This opportunity will provide you with professional hands-on experience and offer you college credit.

Job Title: Crisis Services & Legal Advocacy Intern

Department: Advocacy

Reports To:  Assistant Director of Advocacy

Summary: The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center is committed to the prevention of sexual violence in North Texas and compassionately serving those impacted by it. The Crisis Services & Legal Advocacy Intern will assist the Advocacy team in providing client services and administrative support to ensure that the advocacy needs of DARCC clients are met.

Weekly Commitment: 18-20 hours scheduled based on your availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Advocacy , Director of Advocacy Services and Advocacy team, to execute DARCC’s development plan.
  • Successfully complete a 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocate Training Program, certified by the Office of the Attorney General.
  • Answering crisis calls on the 24-hour crisis line.
  • Providing hospital accompaniment at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, Texas Health Hospital Rockwall, and/or Baylor University Medical Center, for any survivor who presents for a SANE exam.
  • Provides law enforcement and judicial accompaniment to survivors requiring assistance.
  • Maintains and updates agency resource guides to meet the needs of survivors and their families.
  • Assists in creating reference materials on various Crime Victim Assistance programs.
  • Complete all required documentation of services provided and hours worked.
  • Assisting in various projects around the office.
  • Serve as a mentor and support for volunteers.
  • Must believe in, support, and act in accordance with the agency’s mission statement and strategic goals.
  • Ability to maintain non-judgmental, accepting attitudes towards people of any race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, age, appearance, or economic status.

Education and/or Experience: Undergraduate or Graduate Student pursuing a degree in a social services related field or comparable life experience.

Technology and Computer Skills: Must demonstrate excellence with computers and other electronic devices, as well as agency software needed to fulfill responsibilities.
