The National Association of Schools of Music, a not-for-profit specialized accrediting association founded in 1924, headquartered in Reston, VA, is seeking two full-time (9-5, M-F) staff members. Once hired, these employees will hold consistent responsibilities and duties with and among all organizations and operating entities managed by the National Office for Arts Accreditation, including the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), and the Accrediting Commission for Community and Precollegiate Arts Schools (ACCPAS).

The Association employs fourteen staff members in a non-smoking, studious, quiet, and busy office environment. Remote work may be considered depending upon assigned job responsibilities and after hired, the employee’s ability to demonstrate sustained attention to and success with these responsibilities. Attire is business casual. The National Office is within walking distance of the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station.

Daily responsibilities:

Assist as assigned with daily responsibilities associated with the work of the National Office and its constituent organizations, including:

  • Supporting and assisting individuals seeking information about the work of the Associations.
  • Maintaining office operations, systems, equipment, including but not limited to, receiving and processing information; populating databases and spreadsheets; preparing and providing reports; filing and archiving information; accounts receivable and e-commerce activities.
  • Assisting with the work of the accreditation Commissions, including but not limited to preparing accreditation materials; reviewing, reading, and providing feedback regarding accreditation materials; preparing accreditation materials for Commission review; assisting in the preparation of Commission agendas and the work of the Commissions; closing out records and archiving materials following Commission meetings.
  • Preparing and completing meetings, including but not limited to, annual, accreditation, and policy meetings, and those related to special projects.
  • Preparing and completing documents, publications, and correspondence, including crafting, editing, and proofreading various texts.
  • Attending to aspects of Association activities, projects, and events.

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with or ability to learn quickly Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Box.com, FileMaker, Salesforce, and Mac operating systems

Necessary Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree is required. Demonstrated writing expertise is required (see below). Study in an arts discipline and post-collegiate professional experience is desirable.

Compensation/Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with demonstrated ability and experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes selected paid holidays; paid vacation; individual health, dental, vision, and disability insurance (if eligible); and employer-sponsored 403(b) and HSA savings plans.
