Chicago, IL Remote Expires February 26, 2021
Magazine – Assistant/Associate Music Editor – Fall Semester, 2020 VOLUNTEER
 – 5 hours/week for Assistant Editor Position and 10 hours/week for Associate Editor Position
Check with your Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting to determine how you might do this internship for credit.
Picture This Post magazine, www.picturethispost.com, alerts time-strapped readers to cultural offerings that are the best match for their interests in art, books, dance, film, museums, music, theater, as well as travel with a focus on culture. We not only cover culture creators and venues with high name recognition, but also delight in helping to showcase bold, creative strokes by fledgling artists in all genres.
Music Editorial Team members can work in one or more musical genres of their choosing—jazz, classical, opera, indie, hiphop, folk, etc.
As Assistant Music Editor you will be responsible for publishing 2 – 10 short preview articles a week and using our automated systems to keep Music performance events up-to-date in the Readers’ Calendar. For some music genres, you will be conducting correspondence campaigns to get Picture This Post added to media lists maintained by performers’ PR agencies. Over the course of your internship, your role will allow you to peruse many—perhaps hundreds—of press releases regarding Music events and news worldwide, as well as be a part of the team that identifies “Editor’s Top Picks.”
Assistant Editors will be trained on: how to convert promotional press releases into easy-to-read, facts-only, short, précis articles; how to layout these articles in the magazine using our modified WordPress automation; how to publicize these stories in social media, networking with the culture creators profiled in each article; how to conduct professional correspondence to obtain information/assets needed for your stories; and how to create Readers’ Calendar entries showcasing these previews.
Associate Music Editor, in addition to the above, will include learning how to curate preview interviews with composers and musicians, usually via email, and will especially help to identify thought leaders for profile in our growing George Floyd: In Memoriam section.
Associate Editors will learn how to develop questions for interviews; how to lightly edit answers; as well as additional layout skills; and how to assemble “round-up” articles.
Your responsibilities, for either position, will also include submitting weekly reports to the Editor-in-Chief; your upcoming weekly schedule projections; as well as creating a cumulative report on your internship achievements.
Please Note: ALL Picture This Post editors and writers are volunteers—from top to bottom.  There is not a paid internship opportunity.
Time commitment for the Assistant Editor position is 5 hours/week per semester.
Associate Editor is 10 hours/ week—in all cases, except for weeks needing time-off to study for exams and other school/life priorities, pre-arranged with the Editor-in-Chief.
This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in getting a pulse on today’s music world/s.
