Unpaid Internship Scholarship

The UNT Career Center is offering scholarships for undergraduate students participating in unpaid internships. The intention of the scholarship is to encourage and support experiential learning opportunities that help students prepare for their careers.   

Scholarships: 

Recipients will receive scholarships of up to $750.00. The number of awards and dollar amounts will be based on available program funds and demonstrated student interest and need.

To apply, students must:

  • Be a currently enrolled undergraduate at UNT
  • Have completed 30+ UNT credit hours
  • Be in an internship that qualifies for course credit
  • Be registered on Handshake
  • International students must have work authorization for the internship to be eligible*

*Work authorization for the internship must be retained from the International Student and Scholar Services office or USCIS to be eligible.

Please note that this program is not open to students who are:

  • Interning with a UNT department
  • Interning internationally
  • Already receiving grants/funding through another department
  • Past Award recipients
  • Graduate level students
In order to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • You must complete the internship in good standing
  • Your internship must meet the internship requirements set by your academic department*

How to apply:

  • Submit online application (below)
  • Provide information about the internship you are most likely to secure if you have not already secured (accepted) an internship position
  • Upload current resume to Handshake
  • Upload personal essay
    • Essay should be about 500 words describing your academic and career goals and how this internship fits into those goals
    • Be sure to include your interest in this specific internship as well as make your case for any financial considerations (e.g., out-of-pocket expenses) that are affecting your ability to pursue your internship

Application deadlines:

  • Spring: February 5, 2020 11:59pm CST
  • Summer: June 9, 2020 11:59pm CST
  • Fall: September 13, 2021, 11:59pm CST

 

Selections & Post-Internship Letter: 

Selected recipients will receive funding in two equal disbursements: half upon selection and the other half at the end of the semester.  

Prior to receiving the second half of the scholarship disbursement, recipients will be required to submit a letter describing what you learned from your internship and how this internship will help advance your career goals. You will also be required to write a one-page (12 point text, 1” margins, double-spaced) description of your internship and your internship site to be shared with students.
