Meet Paige Sennet. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in May of 2019.
We asked Paige some questions, advice for current students, and how UNT helped them to succeed and SOAR BEYOND!
When you started at UNT, what were your plans after graduation? How have these plans changed? My initial plans post-graduation were to go to law school to become a criminal defense lawyer. Right before graduating, I decided to go into the workforce instead to decide if law school was the right path for someone like me. Since graduating, I found an amazing job with a top company as a recruiter.
What advice do you have for prospective or current students as they decide what they want their next steps to be? My advice is to; not be afraid of not having a plan. I was very involved in college and was always two steps ahead of myself. When I graduated, I was so disappointed that I didn’t have something already lined up. That’s OK. Find what you love to do and apply to jobs that meet your passions. Don’t compromise yourself for a job and stand in your truth. Allow all that North Texas has taught you to guide you into the right job/program.
How did your program at UNT help you to feel prepared for your role/program/next steps? I believe that at UNT, I was given multiple opportunities to be a leader in different areas on campus. Being a black woman, I was the vice-president of a Panhellenic sorority while simultaneously leading Black students during BSE. Having the opportunity to touch various organizations allowed me to become a very well-rounded student and, ultimately, prepared me to enter the work-force. North Texas 40 by far was the organization where my role in that organization has transferred into my current role. The opportunity to work with top students and lead in our recruiting process has allowed me to think big and bring great insight to the table and adjust recruiting processes in my current role.
How did you find your current role/program? I found my current role on Indeed while applying for a different role. My initial interviewer was so impressed with my resume that she recommended I interview with Bain. I got the job on the same day right after my second interview.
What was the most challenging interview question you have been asked? I think that the most challenging interview question I was asked was around the job that I was interviewing for. They asked what my thoughts were on the company. At the time, I didn’t know much about the company itself, which I am sure looked awkward to the Partner that was interviewing me given that my current company has been ranked as Glassdoor’s Best Place to Work for a few years now. Luckily, they were impressed enough to give me an offer. I would recommend doing extensive research on a company prior to interviewing.
Share anything else about your story/experience if you would like to that you haven’t already. Something that I felt empowered to do because of my time at UNT was get involved and change my workplace for the better. I have been at Bain for almost two years now, and I had the opportunity to lead a presentation during last summer’s Black Lives Matter protests about systemic racism. I have had the opportunity to adjust our recruiting processes and be a large voice in how to recruit top diverse talent as well as lead our summer internship program. I am constantly using the tools that UNT gave me to become a better leader in my role, even being as “new” as I am at Bain.
