Soaring Beyond: Dylan Halloran

MEET DYLAN! He graduated from UNT with a degree in Logistics & Supply Chain Management. He works full-time for Nolan Transportation Group as an Account Manager.

We asked Dylan some questions about his plans for graduation, advice for current students, and how UNT helped him to succeed and SOAR BEYOND!

When you started at UNT, what were your plans after graduation? How have these plans changed (if at all)? When I first started college at the University of North Texas, I didn’t know what to expect to be completely honest. Originally I thought I was going to be a marketing major but I decided to work for my dad’s company as a warehouse intern prior to my freshman year of college. This introduced me to the world of logistics. I fell in love with how the industry is catered towards processes with an end-goal in mind. Watching an operation start from the ground up is what I truly enjoy. There is always a problem to solve and a process to follow.

What advice do you have for prospective or current students as they decide what they want their next steps to be (internships/careers/etc.)? The best advice I can give from experience is finding what you are passionate about. Don’t be afraid to derail from the traditional path and worry about what everyone else is doing. College is an opportunity to become self-aware and comfortable in your own skin. Use this experience as an opportunity to grow. Don’t worry it will come with time but the earlier you realize what you want for yourself the world slowly falls into your hands. It is up to you to decide what you want to do about it. Set goals for yourself and create a realistic timeline (Freshman-Senior Year Goals). Take small steps to reach a larger end goal. Network… Network….Network it will pay off. Use as many resources as possible they are here to help. Lastly, be confident in yourself you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to it.

How did your program at UNT help you to feel prepared for this role? The College of Business has a dedicated faculty and staff that truly care about their students. UNT is a hidden gem. You have the advantage of going to school where there is a family environment that allows their student body to grow. If you are a business student take advantage of the Career Center, Professional Leadership Program, and any other social club related to your major. These resources will help you build a foundation for your network. Having that foundation allowed me to get in contact with industry leaders that helped me grow.

How did you find your current role (website, email, word of mouth, etc)? LinkedIn. NTG Corporate Recruiter sent a direct message to my inbox.

What was the toughest interview question they asked you? There wasn’t a specific question I thought was tough but my second phase interview as situational based questions (STAR Method)

How did the Career Center help you? The Career Center helped me formulate my resume and helped me understand how to build a high-quality LinkedIn profile.
