Who We Are – Get to Know the Career Center
Get to know the UNT’s Career Center’s staff, graduate assistants, and student assistants throughout the semester. Each team member will showcase their commitment to diversity and inclusive practices for our students, alumni, and employers. Who are we, and how do we work to make sure our office is a welcoming space.
Amy Hicks (she, her, hers) – Career Coach supporting alumni
My higher education experience includes career services, teaching, academic advising, and program support. I earned my bachelor’s and MBA from TWU. I am currently a Career Coach with a focus on helping alumni. I love turtles, coffee, beaches, and my three amazing kiddos. My favorite vacation was a road trip through Ireland in 2016.
Describe a typical workday, tasks, and what you enjoy most about your job?
I meet individually with alumni. We work together to create action plans for goals, one step at a time. I really enjoy editing and helping to create effective and unique resumes, cover letters, and other types of written communication. I search resources to promote opportunities and answer questions about anything job or career-related. Facilitating workshops and presentations is a big part of what I do. I am always looking to provide opportunities for individuals I work with to make connections and gain more information.
Describe the services you provide for UNT students.
I provide individual coaching and plan career events for UNT alumni. We have monthly Career Conversations, a virtual group to share tips and resources on professional development topics. I also support the Toulouse Graduate school by offering workshops and promoting opportunities for grad students.
Why do you believe students utilize the Career Center? What are the benefits?
I think the Career Center provides a lot of helpful information, support, and employer connections in one place. Our services are free for life and tailored to your needs. Plus, you can access multiple tools and on-demand features on our website.
