The UNT Career Center is looking for enthusiastic students with a passion for educating and mentoring to join our High School Career Connect Team!

What is High School Career Connect (HSCC)?

HSCC is a program housed within the UNT Career Center that provides one-on-one mentorship, presentations, and workshops to students in local middle and high schools to provide them with career resources needed to navigate their desired career path.

Job Responsibilities

· Provides mentoring to students at partner Middle and High Schools in the Denton and surrounding areas

· Sends follow-up correspondence and resources to Mentees as needed

· Facilitates presentations at schools and attends career and college fairs as requested

· May conduct virtual mentoring as needed

· Tracks and records student data to support department assessment needs

· Assists with the recruitment of new Mentors in Spring

· Support UNT Career Center events and initiatives as needed. This includes tabling, event check-in, drop-in resume review assistance and more.

· Attends weekly Team Meetings and participates in professional development trainings

Other Benefits:

· Reimbursement for mileage to and from schools ($0.67/mile, paid twice per semester)

· Coaching and mentoring experience

· Experience working one-on-one with middle/high school students

· Experience working in a public education setting

· Opportunity to meet and network with Teachers and Administrators in schools (great experience for education majors)

· Direct supervision from a Career Coach and individualized professional development support and 1:1 goal setting discussions

· Enhanced public speaking and presentation skills

· All Mentors will receive career readiness training on a variety of topics as well as have the opportunity to participate in other professionally developmental opportunities and events.

· Other skills gained include: Technical Skills like Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Canvas, Conducting Online Research, Written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, time management, customer service, peer-to-peer coaching, teamwork, professionalism

Qualifications

· Must be a current UNT student who will be enrolled for the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 semesters

· Undergraduate students only (Freshmen – Seniors)

· 2.75 GPA or Higher

· Must have significant blocks of open times on your class schedule Monday through Friday between 9 am – 3 pm to accommodate school visits.

· This position involves driving to and from schools in the Denton area on a weekly basis. Candidates must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Public Transportation, Uber, or Lyft Will Not be allowed.
